Art Professor Shelley Jordon to Speak at The Center for the Humanities

February 21st: The Center for the Humanities, 4:00pm

Painting by Art Professor Shelley JordonDepartment of Art Professor Shelley Jordon will give a visual presentation about the process of researching and creating a hand-painted animation about her mother-in-law, Anita Greenstein’s, experience as a young child surviving Nazi Germany.   Against all odds, three generations of this German Jewish family survived underground in and around Berlin, eventually relocating to Portland, Oregon.  Jordon’s animation project tentatively called “Anita’s Journey”, is based on a detailed memoir about the family’s experience, written by Anita’s father, Robert Graetz .  Her presentation will discuss her recent research trip to Berlin, the challenges of creating imagery for the piece and include excerpts from the work in progress.
