I.                APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes from the April 24 meeting were approved with minor editing

 

II.              REPORT FROM CURRICULUM COUNCIL CHAIRS (C. Boyer and L. Friedman) –  C. Boyer was welcomed back by L. Friedman

 

III.            REPORT FROM ACADEMIC PROGRAMS (B. Burton) –  No report

 

IV.            OLD BUSINESS

a)   Category I Proposal:  BA, BS in Education  - L. Friedman

During continued discussion, it was noted that only two letters of liaison had been submitted.

Decision:  The Curriculum Council  approved the proposal pending receipt of liaison letters from Ag Ed and Foreign Language, and correction to Other Payroll Expense (OPE) on budget pages.

(Karen Higgins abstained on this vote)

 

L. Friedman will request the liaison letters from Sam Stern.

 

 

V.              NEW BUSINESS

a)    Cat I Proposal: BS Earth Science  – R. Haggerty

The purpose of this proposal is to provide a multi-disciplinary degree across earth science.  The directorship of this program will be contained within the leadership of the department.

 

Decision:  The Curriculum Council approved the Category I proposal for a BS in Earth Science.

 

b)    Pre-requisite enforcement –  G. Tiedeman and B. Warner proposed that a campus-wide policy be established regarding enforcement of pre-requisites.  This could be set up using BANNER.

 

Decision:  The Curriculum Council recommended  that each department interpret individually how they want to handle  pre-requisites.

 

B. Burton will bring this up for discussion with Barbara Balz, Registrar, the Undergraduate Education Council, and the ASOSU student government organization.

 

 

L. Friedman recessed the Curriculum Council meeting at 3:00 pm.
