I. REPORT FROM ACADEMIC AFFAIRS: (G. Beach)
A. The Graduate Council may, in the future, discuss the possibility of Areas of Concentration going through a review process.
B. The search for the new Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Affairs is continuing. There is currently no closing date for the position announcement, but interviews will be conducted as qualified candidates apply.
II. REPORT FROM THE CHAIR: (L. Friedman)
A. I. Delson is serving on the Task Force to review the Graduate Admissions process. The Task Force is still looking for suggestions on how to make the process more effective and efficient.
III. NEW BUSINESS
A. The Council reviewed and approved the Category I proposal for a B.A. and B.S. in Computational Physics. Rubin Landau and Henri Jansen presented the proposal to the Council.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
A. I. Delson and W. Loveland shared information regarding Professional Certificates issued by other institutions:
1. Portland State only has certificates that are reviewed by their Curriculum Council.
2. The University of Washington has over 80 certificate programs. Course of study is one year or more and "endorsed" by UW. Coursework is graded, and the content and faculty are approved by normal curricular processes.
