SUMMER JOBS 2009

AQUATIC INVENTORIES PROJECT

Open Date: January 12, 2009
Closing Date: Until all positions are filled
Classification: Experimental Biology Aide (no formal class or announcement number) - 26 positions

Salary Range: $1,979 monthly
Medical, dental, and life plans available
Locations: Roseburg, Coos Bay, Central Point, Baker City
Duration: June 15 - September 17, 2009

Job Description: The employees in these positions will be conducting stream habitat surveys and sampling fish populations in streams. Duties include:
             * Describing channel morphology, riparian, and instream characteristics.
             * Assessing distribution and abundance of fish and amphibians.
             * Keeping accurate and clear data records.
             * Hiking into and along streams daily.
             * Working in hot, cold, rainy weather or in rough terrain.
             * Camping or backpacking in remote areas.
             * Communicating with the public to gain access to private land and to explain our activities.

Experience in fish sampling and habitat surveys is preferred, but standardized training will be provided. Training will be conducted the first week of employment (June 15 - June 19) and is MANDATORY.  Employees must be self-motivated, willing to work under a variety of conditions, and responsible for the quality of data collected. Candidates with related field experience and a college background in a natural resource field such as fish and wildlife, biology, or geology will be given preference for interviews.

Applicants must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will heck driving records for in-state finalists.  Out-of-state finalists will be required to present a current driving record for review.
