Oregon is one of the leading berry crop production regions in the world. In my position (55% Extension; 35% Research; 10% Teaching) I conduct extension educational programs for the commercial berry crop industries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, cranberries, hardy kiwifruit, and minor berries) from my campus office in the Department of Horticulture, Corvallis. In addition, I am the Berry Crops Research Leader at the North Willamette Research and Extension Center (OSU) in Aurora. My research interests focus on whole plant physiology, improving yield and quality, machine harvest efficiency, alternative production practices, plant nutrition, and cold hardiness of all berry crops. See my “Research Summary” for more information. I have published many scientific articles on berry crop production and physiology and the extension publications and blueberry pruning video I have co-authored are widely distributed worldwide. I am presently chair of the Vaccinium Section of the International Society for Horticultural Science. As part of my teaching responsibility, I am the instructor for HORT 452/552 (Berry and Grape Production/physiology) and co-instruct HORT 251 (Fruit Materials) in the Department of Horticulture. Please see my resume for more information.
