IIFET 2006, Portsmouth

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

IIFET's President, Mahfuz Ahmed, its Executive Committee, and Executive Director Ann Shriver, welcome you to participate in our next biennial conference superbly sited in historic Portsmouth UK, on the English Channel.

We are delighted to announce the dates of next year's biennial conference. IIFET 2006 Portsmouth will be held Tuesday July 11-Friday July 14, 2006 at the University of Portsmouth, and will be organized by Sean Pascoe and his team at the Centre for the Economics and Management of Aquatic Resources (CEMARE) http://www.port.ac.uk/research/cemare/. Pre- and post conference tours, events, etc. will be also be planned.

Current theme ideas include:

Fish for the future: recovering fisheries from collapse

Biodiversity: fisheries and the ecosystem (including modeling fisheries' interactions with the environment).

Ideas are being collected on strengthening the seafood markets portion of the program, a post-tsunami assessment session(s), and other topics. If you have ideas or suggestions please contact Conference Organizer and CEMARE Director Sean Pascoe through conference coordinator Nicola Waterman at nicola.waterman@port.ac.uk.

Stay tuned to IIFET channels for details, including a first call for abstracts (by late July 2005) and a detailed second call/announcement (by early December 2005).
