IIFET International Conferences

An important forum for members and others to learn about important research developments in seafood trade, aquaculture, and fisheries management issues is our biennial international conferences. Every two years, a different international site is chosen to host our four-day meeting, attended by fisheries social scientists, managers, and industry members from all of the world's fishing areas. Keynote speakers and submitted papers address a variety of both applied and theoretical topics. These conferences provide participants with unparalleled opportunities to interact with the world's foremost fisheries economists in both formal and informal settings. They also allow us to visit a wide variety of international locations to learn more about fishing and aquaculture activities across the globe.

To date, conferences have been held in Alaska, USA; Christchurch, New Zealand; Quebec, Canada; Esbjerg, Denmark; Santiago, Chile; Paris, France; Taipei, Taiwan; Marrakech, Morocco; Tromso, Norway; Oregon, USA; Wellington, New Zealand, Tokyo, Japan, and Portsmouth, UK. Please join us for our fourteenth biennial conference at IIFET 2008 Vietnam, organized by the Nha Trang University of Fisheries, July 15-18, 2008.

Interested in organizing a future IIFET Conference? Please contact Ann L. Shriver for information.

Proceedings from these conferences are published by the conference organizers; for information on how to order please see our publications page.

Best Student Paper Award

The IIFET Executive Committee offers an award to the author of the best student paper presented at our biennial conferences. To be eligible for the award, authors must be currently enrolled in a graduate program or have completed such a program no more than 12 months before the submission deadline. Authors must go through the normal abstract submission process, and in addition must submit the completed paper by the appropriate deadline (normally 2-3 months prior to the conference start date; see conference website for details). The paper must be accompanied by an attestation of student status form. The IIFET Executive Committee will review papers and inform the winner of the award prior to the conference. Standard journal refereeing criteria will be used. The award-winning paper must be presented at the conference. The award winner will be announced at the conference and in the IIFET Newsletter.
