IIFET 2010 Montpellier Prizes, Awards, and Travel Support

To apply for these awards, please follow the individual instructions for each award which you will find linked to the descriptions below.

You may apply for up to TWO of awards 1-5 listed below, but you may only win ONE. If you apply for two, please let us know when emailing your paper, which you would prefer in case your paper is selected for both.

For the Student prizes, applicants must have an abstract accepted for ORAL presentation at IIFET 2010 Montpellier.

1. Best Student Paper Prize: This prize is offered by the IIFET Secretariat. Student authors from all countries are eligible to compete. This year's prize, supported by the US National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), will include a $500 check, and up to $2000 in travel support, and free conference registration. 2. Developing Country Aquaculture Economics Best Student Paper Prize: This prize is offered by the IIFET Secretariat, with financial support from the AquaFish Collaborative Research Program (AquaFish CRSP). Student authors from all countries are eligible. Papers must be on topics related to the economics of the aquaculture sector in developing countries. This year's prize will include a $500 check, up to $2000 in travel support, and free conference registration. See http://oregonstate.edu/dept/IIFET/IIFET2010ABSP.html for details and instructions.
3. Aquaculture Economics Professional Travel Awards: These awards are offered by the IIFET Secretariat, with financial support from the AquaFish CRSP. Non-student author/participants from developing countries writing on aquaculture economics-related topics are eligible to apply for these awards, which provide up to $1500 in travel support, plus free conference registration. 1-2 of these awards will be provided. 4. JIFRS-Yamamoto Prize: This award is offered by JIFRS (The Japan International Fisheries Research Society). Participants from developing countries presenting a paper which is useful in encouraging the rational development of responsible national fisheries in his or her own country are eligible to apply for these awards, which include a $500 check, plus a partial travel support from grant of $1000 from JIFRS. 5. OECD Prize for Best Policy Paper: This prize, first established in 2008, will be awarded to the paper that most successfully addresses a contemporary fisheries policy issue, based on strong economic analysis and providing sound advice to policymakers. Eligible papers may address issues in either OECD or non-OECD countries and can cover any aspect of fisheries policy. The prize, sponsored by the OECD, will include a $500 check, a certificate, and publication of the paper in the OECD Working Paper series (subject to the consent of the author). 6. Additional support for developing country participants: the conference organizers (IRD and partners) are currently seeking sources of financial support to enable them to offer full or partial support for travel. Your ability to leverage partial support from the conference organizer with support from other sources will improve your chances. Please note that the number of available travel stipends will likely be small, so please continue to seek support from other sources. To apply for travel support, please:

a. Submit your abstract for "Early Bird" review, by October 30, 2009

b. Send a supporting email with details of your request by October 30, 2009, including the amount of support and a list of the items for which you request support, to Francis Laloe at francis.laloe@ird.fr with a copy to Ann L. Shriver at Ann.L.Shriver@oregonstate.edu.
7. Special Registration Fees and Low-cost Accommodation: The conference organizers (IRD and partner organizations) are providing lower registration fees to students and to participants from developing countries on the UN list of lower income countries.
