IIFET 2010 Montpellier Best Student Paper Prize Instructions

1. Submit your abstract through the normal abstract submission process. It makes no difference whether you use the early bird (October 30, 2009 deadline) or regular (January 20, 2010 deadline) process. Visit http://www.colloque.ird.fr/iifet-2010/
2. Once your abstract has been accepted, you may proceed to the next step: contact Kara Keenan and request an award registration number for the paper you intend to submit.
3. Once you've received your registration number, you may prepare your paper. Your paper may be on any economic topic of relevance to the conference themes. Please do not submit a paper for consideration unless your abstract is accepted by the Scientific Committee. NEW THIS YEAR!!! The formatting requirements for Best Student Paper submissions have changed; full length (30 page, double spaced) journal- formatted papers are allowed. You will be submitting your paper with a separable title and author page, for a blind review. Additional formatting information Failure to follow the formatting rules will result in your paper being returned to you for reformatting. If you have questions, please consult with us well before the submission deadline. Papers which do not meet the requirements-especially in terms of length-will not be submitted to the committee for review. The deadline is March 20, 2010. Email your paper, in Word (or Word Perfect) and PDF format, to Ann.L.Shriver@oregonstate.edu.

Note: if you are unable to create a PDF document, you may contact Kara Keenan and request help. Please be sure to do so at least one week prior to the submission deadline. You MUST review carefully and approve any PDF document she may create for you. We are not responsible for errors that may occur in document translation.
4. In addition to submitting your paper, you are required to submit an IIFET Attestation of Student Status form by the deadline. Please note: no additional letter of reference is required; please do not send any. Simply ensure that that your major professor or department chair attests to the fact that you are/were a student (at least until March 20, 2009), and that you are the primary author of the paper, on the Attestation form. "Primary author" means that you are primarily responsible for the intellectual work in the paper, and that the paper reflects your own research, analysis, and writing.
5. The winner will be selected by April 30, 2008; all contestants will be informed of the results by email. The winner will receive a $500 check and an award certificate at the IIFET 2010 Montpellier Conference. Free registration will be provided by the conference organizers, and travel support in the amount of up to $2,000 will be provided by the IIFET Secretariat (funded by the US NOAA Fisheries, or NMFS). If desired, IIFET will provide you with an air ticket through our travel agent, pay for your lodging, and/or provide you with money for food and related travel expenses, up to $2000. You will need to comply with the travel procedures of Oregon State University. IIFET Executive Director Ann Shriver will provide further detailed information to the winner.

Note: any expenses in excess of $2000 must be covered by the prize winner.

The prize winner is required to present his/her own paper at the conference. We strongly encourage the submission of the winning paper for inclusion in the conference proceedings. IIFET does not take copyright on articles in our proceedings, so from our perspective you may, and are encouraged to, submit your paper to journals for publication. We recommend that you either submit a revised version of your proceedings paper to journals, or if your paper has already been accepted for journal publication in its current form, you may provide an extended abstract and a reference to the forthcoming journal publication. We will work with you to ensure that inclusion in the proceedings does not impede publication of your article in a peer-reviewed journal.

6. The $500 check, and a certificate, will be presented at an award ceremony during the IIFET 2010 Montpellier conference, and the winner's name will be announced during the conference and in the conference program.
The Review Committee may, if appropriate, elect to award honorable mentions. Honorable mention winners will receive a certificate of award at the award ceremony during the conference. No financial award is associated with an honorable mention.
