Canadian Marine Fisheries in a Changing and Uncertain World
By Rod Dobell
ABSTRACT
This presentation will review the conclusions of the report Canadian Marine Fisheries in a Changing and Uncertain World (National Research Council Press, 1999) developed by an academic panel appointed by the Canadian Global Change Program. It will speculate on some issues of stewardship and property rights raised by that report, with brief reference to the possible role of social capital in resolving those issues. A concluding survey will sketch some of the continuing questions of consultation and governance currently under discussion in reviews of fisheries management on the Pacific Coast of Canada.
