Fishery Industry's Confidence Towards the Near Future in Different Levels of Production Chain in FinlandBy Anssi Ahvonen and Asmo HonkanenABSTRACTThe idea of this study is to follow general economic fluctuations and try to foresee how confident fishery industry is towards the near future and simultaneously indicate the relative development in the near past. The outlook of the entire production chain needs to be clarified to get detailed enough picture of the phenomena. The data on enterprises can be divided into fishing, aquaculture, processing, wholesale and retail trade. Essential variables in this context are expectations on forthcoming annual turnover, total sale, prices, costs, investments, export and number of employees. A pilot survey was conducted in 1999 and data were collected with computer-based phone interviews. The sample comprised 53 enterprises in the fisheries industry. Regular collection of follow-up data is going to start at February 2000, when the sample size will be expanded to include 350 enterprises countrywide.
