Range Camp
What is the High Desert Youth Range Camp (HDYRC)? The organizers of range camp have a passion for our western rangelands and want youth to know how exciting these lands are and how important the management of these lands are to our communities. We have designed range camp for students to get out on the landscape and learn about rangelands in a fun atmosphere. Many career opportunities are available in the range management field and will be highlighted during camp. Campers will learn about soils, plants, wildlife, using GPS units, talk with ranchers and range and wildlife scientists and much more! College credit is earned for all students completing camp from Treasure Valley Community College.
When is camp held? June 19-22, 2013. Click here to see our brochure!
Where is camp held? Northern Great Basin Experimental Range 35 miles west of Burns, OR. This is a spectacular 16,000 acre property where USDA-Agriculture Research Service and Oregon State University scientists conduct cutting edge research on managing rangelands and livestock production.
Who is camp for? If you will be enrolled in high school in Sept. 2013 and have an interest in rangeland, being outdoors, wildlife habitats, livestock, plants, career opportunities in natural resources or just having fun while learning about rangelands then you must apply!
What does camp cost? We have a number of sponsors for range camp that help defray the $175.00 cost per student. Students accepted to camp will only pay $50.00.
How do I apply? An application to our camp can be found here: APPLICATION
