This position is located in Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Pacific West Area, Range and Meadow Forage Management Research in Burns, Oregon.
This announcement will be used to fill two positions.
One position will conduct research to determine the limiting factors controlling rangeland-seeding success, and utilize this knowledge in the development of methodologies and technologies that result in the establishment of functional plant communities. Products developed from this research will be utilized by governmental land management agencies as well as private and NGO partners.
One position will conduct field and lab research that will work in support of ongoing efforts to improve restoration success in sagebrush plant communities under threat from exotic annual grass invasion and altered fire regimes. RESEARCH ECOLOGIST, RESEARCH RANGELAND MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST/RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
The incumbent will work collaboratively with other scientists to develop methods to reduce the risk of mega-fires and mediate the effects of wildfires. Specific duties include: conducting research to investigate the effects of livestock grazing on fire risk and behavior and post-fire plant community recover, and estimating grazing effects on fire behavior across a wide range of weather conditions.
