OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY

How do I add a feature story in OSU Standard?

The rotating header image used in OSU Standard is an element that only works with OSU Standard.  The content type, imagecache settings, and view used in this feature must be set up by someone with administrator permissions.

Before creating a feature story for your site, you will need the following:

  1. A thumbnail image that is at least the size specified on the content type - it can be larger than this, but it's best if the image is reasonably square.
  2. A full size image that is at least the size specified on the content type.  It's best if the image is a long, short rectangle shape.

Note: Your Drupal site will automatically scale and crop the images to the correct dimensions, so you don't have to be exact if you pre-crop your images, but the starting *shape* should be close.

After you have your images ready, do the following to create the feature story:

  1. In your Admin menu at the top of your screen, go to Content management > Create content > Feature Story.
  2. Enter a title in the Title field.
  3. Upload your thumbnail image in the Thumbnail field.
    1. Once you upload, you will see a few fields accompany your image.  These are ALT, Title, and Description fields.  Your ALT and Title fields may have token values in them - this will automatically put token text in these important fields.  If you wish to change this information, you may.  The Description field will be blank and is an optional field supplied to add extended metadata if you choose.
  4. Upload your full-size image in the Photo field.

  5. Enter a brief summary in the Caption field - this will show with your large image on the front page.
  6. Enter your full article text in the Body field.
  7. Scroll down to Publishing options, open it up, and check the Promoted to Front Page option.
  8. Click the Save button.

That's all there is to it.  Everything else will just appear, where it should, automatically.
