7-15-2008: MySQL Server Update

The CWS MySQL database server will be offline from 1:00am to 1:05am on Tuesday, July 15th 2008 to apply a security update.

Websites which do not rely upon database connectivity will be completely functional during this maintenance.

Drupal websites which use a database back end will default to serving
up a local cached copy of their content during this 5 minute outage.

Websites which do rely upon database connectivity will experience an
outage during this 5 minute window, where attempted queries will fail.

We apologize for the short notice of this upgrade.

7-12-2008: Shell and FTP Server Kernel Upgrade

The CWS shell, FTP and SMB server will be rebooted at 6:00am on Saturday, July 12th 2008 to apply a kernel upgrade. The new kernel contains fixes for possible security exploits.

Full service will be restored by 6:30am.

All websites hosted by Central Web
Services will be completely functional during this maintenance.

MySQL Server Security Updates 2-9-2008

On Saturday, February 9th at 6:30am we will apply security patches on the CWS
MySQL 5 servers and restart the service afterwards. This will affect:

mysql5.cws.oregonstate.edu (MySQL 5.0 databases)
dbpub.cws.oregonstate.edu (Replication)

Patching and restarting should take less than 10 minutes.

Database-driven websites hosted by Central Web Services may display
errors during this time; Drupal websites will still function correctly.

Systems Web Developer

Central Web Services (CWS) provides systems and services in support of Oregon State University Instruction, Research and Administration.

CWS hosts and develops content for external and internal web visitors. Staff are directly responsible for the daily operation, administration and welfare of systems hosting OSU's web pages, and associated databases that provide access to research and other information for
users both on campus, in Oregon, and around the world.

This position is to provide top-level leadership to the OSU campus in the area of enterprise wide web applications and; to design and assemble the programming necessary to carry out the mission critical functions of CWS. Additional responsibilities include design and maintenance of supporting Linux server systems and the LAMP stack, and documenting all procedures and operations. New OSU Campus Map

A new campus map developed by Central Web Services is now available.

By utilizing the Google Maps API and AJAX, the latest campus map delivers a responsive interface and an interactive user experience. With the latest map, users have the ability to search for buildings and maps, drag to pan, highlight multiple buildings, and much more.

While the new campus map uses JavaScript to enhance usability, it also provides an accessible user interface to non-JavaScript users.
