ONID personal web sites, previously available at http://oregonstate.edu/~username, have been moved to their own web site at http://people.oregonstate.edu/~username on September 14th.
Group web sites, previously available at http://oregonstate.edu/groups/groupname, will be moving to the people.oregonstate.edu domain. For all new and incoming groups, you will be placed in the people domain. For existing groups, we will work with you in the migration of your group over.
Why the change?
The people.oregonstate.edu web site was established to clearly delineate personal and group web sites from other OSU related web sites and to enhance personal web sites. These changes allow for possible future enhancements, such as an opt-in directory listing of personal and group web sites. In addition this provides a level of isolation to ensure the security of the oregonstate.edu domain name from new browser security detection settings that detect spam and other malware and that mark sites as malware type sites.
What do you need to do?
Update any information that references your previous page by replacing http://oregonstate.edu/~username with http://people.oregonstate.edu/~username. We will automatically redirect requests from the old web site to the new web site.
If you have an existing group site, contact us. Create a help ticket and select "Site Request" as the General Subject and put in the description that you will need assistance in the migration of your existing site to the people.oregonstate.edu domain.
We do not expect these changes to impact your current site. In the event that your site is no longer functional, please first check your site for places where you will need to specify people.oregonstate.edu and update your configuration. If your site is still not functioning, please open a help ticket and select "Systems" as the General Subject. If you have hardcoded oregonstate.edu/~username, or oregonstate.edu in configuration files or links, you will want to change this to people.oregonstate.edu.
When is this happening?
Personal websites moved to the new domain on September 14th. For groups, changes are already being implemented. We started creating sites in the new domain in early September will be continuing to do so over the next several months. New and returning groups are already receiving their space in the people.oregonstate.edu site.
