Drupal Update Release 10-25-2011

Starting Tuesday, October 25, 2011 Central Web Services will be updating our OSU Drupal release to the latest version.

This release will contain some exciting updates to the OSU Standard theme as well as three modules that will greatly assist some important tasks that occur behind the scenes. This release includes:

OSU Standard Theme Update

The last relase of OSU Standard included some major changes designed to make our sites more accessible. After the relase we got some feedback and have made some minor adjustmensts and refinements to those changes.

With each new release of OSU Standard we will be adding more customization options to allow you to control specific theme elements!  In this update, you can now toggle the display of the auto book navigation that is a default feature of the Book module.

This feature was, in the past, hidden from view in OSU Standard.  In response to many requests, CWS has provided the option to hide or display it, as desired.

Visit the CWS Training site for instructions on how to configure this theme setting.

Roles That Can Access This: Advanced Author, Administrator

Site Impact: Limited to sites that use the Book page content type in OSU Standard.

Module: Auto Nodetitles

The Auto Nodetitles module is a contributed module that works within CCK.  This module provides the ability to configure a custom content type so that the Title field is automatically generated based upon some preset value(s), such as by using a First Name field and a Last Name field.  This reduces the need for adding data into one additional field and also automates the titling of nodes so that it is consistent from node to node.

Visit the CWS Training site for instructions on how to configure automatic node titles. Full instructions will be available by 10-25-2011.

Roles That Can Access This: Advanced Author, Administrator

Site Impact: No visible effect to an external audience. Must be actively configured via CCK by an Advanced Author or Administrator.

Module: Taxonomy CSV

Taxonomy CSV is a contributed module that provides the ability to import and export vocabularies.  This is a great tool that can help administrators of multiple sites speed up and standardize their taxonomy development across many sites.

Visit the CWS Training site for instructions on how to import and export vocabularies. Full instructions will be available by 10-25-2011.

Roles That Can Access This: Advanced Author, Administrator

Site Impact: No visible impact to an external audience.

Module: Content Access

In response to many requests for more granular access control, we are now including the Content Access module, a contributed module that provides the ability to control access to both the editing of nodes as well as the viewing of them.  Now, OSU Drupal 6 authors, advanced authors, and administrators can control access by content type, or even per node basis, if desired.
