Network Outage Notices
Adding Vlan to Netscalers
Primary Contact: Josh Zojonc, josh.zojonc@oregonstate.edu
On Saturday, May 4th at 2200 (10pm) in conjunction with NOC, we will be adding vlan 479 onto the port channel of the Netscalers. This change will not result in any interruption of service nor will it be noticeable to end users.
The standby device will have the vlan added first, then made to be the primary. It will then have the vlan defined on it. Once the addition had been verified to not have any negative effects the vlan will be added to the now standby Netscaler trunk port. It will then be made primary again and tested.
In the event of failure changes will be rolled back.
Communication will be done via http://blogs.oregonstate.edu/sig

New cert for scure.oregonstate.edu
Primary Contact: Josh Zojonc, josh.zojonc@oregonstate.edu
On Tuesday April 30th at 2200 (10:00pm) we will be modifying the SSL cert for secure.oregonstate.edu. This is not a simple cert renewal, this is a new cert that has a Subject Alternative Name (SAN) for oregonstate.edu. End users will not be affected.
The risk for this change is extremely small as we have been able to test in dev. After the update CWS and the Server Support Team will verify the new cert.
In the event of any problems a rollback to the old cert will be performed.
Any further communication will be done via http://blogs.oregonstate.edu/sig

Planned Maintenance – CWS Drupal 7 Update Tuesday 4/30 at 8:00 AM
Correction – The update is Tuesday 4/30 – Sorry
On Tuesday morning 4/30at 8 AM CWS will be updating CWS Hosted Drupal 7 sites to the latest version of Drupal. This will only affect Drupal 7 production sites. Although this will incur a 2 to 3 minute interruption in service to the affected websites, most site visitors will not notice the interruption, as most pages are cached. This will be a rolling upgrade and we cannot say exactly when or on which day a specific site will be affected.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact us through our form at http://oregonstate.edu/is/services/cws/contact.
Thank you,
Paul Lieberman Lead Web Developer Central Web Services

Reboot of DNS and DHCP servers
Saturday night we will be rebooting our DNS and DHCP servers (ns1, ns2, ns4, ns5) one at a time to apply software updates. Each name server will be unavailable for 10-15 minutes each. Most clients and servers are configured with a secondary name server and will fail over during this time. All clients are likely to experience brief slowness or time-outs. DNS and DHCP are both provided by ns1 and ns2; ns4 and ns5 are our on-campus-only resolvers.
If you have servers or workstations hardcoded to a single name server, we encourage you to add one of the other name servers as a secondary.
Maintenance window: 4/28 00:00 to 4/28 04:00

Brief Core Network Outage, 4/23 at 1:48 pm
An incorrect configuration was erroneously applied to the core network resulting in an approximately 7 min long network outage from 1:48pm to 1:55pm on Tuesday, 4/23. The outage affected access to core services from Information Services including the Internet, the OSU website, Blackboard, and Banner. Email service was delayed but no inbound or outbound mail was lost.
The issue has been resolved and we are exploring root cause. We expect no further disruptions due to this incident and are revisiting our change management controls to prevent this in the future.

Exchange maintenance 4/19/2013 @ 9:30PM
This weekend starting at 9:30 pm on 4/19/2013 we will be performing maintenance on the Exchange Servers. We will be rolling back the network interface changes that were made last weekend since updating the Network driver was all that was required to resolve the load balancer monitor failures. In addition, we will be updating the RAID controller firmware to resolve a battery charging issue. This will require rebooting each system so we will remove the servers one at a time from the load balancers to gracefully age out connections.
This maintenance is non-service-impacting. If you have any questions, please email ServerSupport@oregonstate.edu.

For a more complete description of maintenance activities and the long-term maintenance calendar, please see the original notification at intranet.nws.oregonstate.edu/blog/archives/4442.
(04/18/2013) Reseating SUP 6 on DCS1

Spam Filter Issue, April 17th to 18th
Yesterday at 2:00 pm, Information Services made a change to the university’s spam filter that made the filter overly sensitive. As a result, some email sent from outside OSU was inappropriately tagged as spam. This issue was corrected at 11:00 am today, April 18.
We advise that all members of the OSU community check their “junk” or ”spam” email folders as well as any other folder that might apply rules to email sent to your OSU email address. The issue did not affect any email you may have sent during this time.
As a good practice, we always recommend that people check their junk email folder on a regular basis, as even the best spam filter is not 100% perfect. In the meantime, we apologize for this incident that may have caused email to be misfiled in your email client.
(Saturday 4/20, 10 pm to 12 am) Enable jumbo frames on datacenters going to b210nxs and milnenxs
Primary Contact: Joel Burks, joel.burks@oregonstate.edu
Per TAC instructions, the order doesn’t matter. But it was recommended to set the MTU on the primary VPC devices, then on the secondary. Also, recommended doing during a maintenance window. Since we’re running versions newer than 5.0(2)N2(1) there should be a graceful failover to the secondary devices for the port channels involved. Also the commands should be the same on 5010s and 5548s.
