Emerging Technologies

Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1:30-3:00 pm, Valley 3622, Willamette Seminar Rooms

On today's web, new applications are emerging every day (in beta!). And there is a lot more out there than Facebook and MySpace.  While a lot of the activity on the read/write web is focused on entertainment, shopping or socializing, underneath it all is something more profound. Our users are using these lightweight, flexible tools to find and share information, communicate and collaborate in new, dynamic ways.  More and more, social, collaborative, web-based tools are being used in teaching, learning and research, pushing us all to reconsider how we teach our students to find, evaluate and share information.
In this workshop, librarians from the Valley Library will address the question of what it means to do academic research in a "Web 2.0 world." You don't have to know anything about programming to see how these applications can affect how we connect and learn online. Learn about some of the applications that make up "Web 2.0" and talk about what these mean for teaching and learning.
