Attention, GTAs: The CTL Is Seeking Experienced GTAs

The Center for Teaching & Learning is seeking motivated and qualified Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) to serve as mentors during the spring, summer, and fall of 2014. The GTA Mentors Program (formerly the GTA Fellows) provides an opportunity for experienced GTAs to gain valuable teaching experience and participate in advanced trainings and professional development.

Position Description: GTA Mentors will be instrumental in planning and facilitating the CTL’s fourth annual New GTA Orientation event on September 18 & 19. GTA Mentors will develop curriculum for and facilitate break-out sessions at the orientation in addition to serving as mentors to other GTAs within their respective departments.

Duties & Responsibilities: GTA Mentors must participate in four trainings and professional development sessions provided by the Center for Teaching and Learning throughout the summer and attend both days of the New GTA Orientation in September. The trainings will be held on the following dates: May 7- 12:00-2:00 PM, June 18- 10:00-1:00 PM, July 16- 10:00-1:00 PM, and August 20- 10:00-1:00 PM. Beyond the New GTA Orientation event, GTA Mentors will have additional for-credit opportunities to develop and facilitate GTA workshops and serve as consultants to their fellow teaching assistants in their respective departments.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have completed at least two terms of teaching at OSU and should have a record of high quality and innovative teaching. Applicants must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA at OSU to be eligible. All GTA Mentors will be compensated $250 in professional development funds upon completing their training and facilitation duties.

The CTL will be hosting two informational sessions about the GTA Mentors program that will provide an opportunity to meet a few of the past Mentors and ask questions. The sessions will be held on the following dates:

February 25 from 12:00-1:00 PM in Milam 215

March 6 from 10:00-11:00 AM in the Valley Library Willamette West Room
