Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) Light

SAD is influenced by two factors: light deprivation and stress. OSU students are particularly vulnerable to SAD because Corvallis is far enough north that January days are significantly short (one hour shorter than San Diego, CA). It is the shorter day, not the grey winter sky, that is responsible for the light deprivation that can trigger SAD. (Light has its effect through the eyes, so a tanning booth won't help.)
How do you treat SAD? Artificially lengthen your day. Increase indoor lighting. Come to the Mind Spa and use our SAD light, or rent a light box through Student Health Service.
