SASS philosophy and rights of survivor
We believe in:
- Providing a safe place to be heard
- Providing unconditional support for survivors in their recovery choices
- Respecting each individuals recovery and healing process
- Honoring and appreciating diversity and the uniqueness of each individual survivor
All Sexual Assault Survivors Have the Right to:
- Be believed, no matter what situation they were in at the time of the assault
- Not be exposed to prejudice based upon race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, gender, age, ability, lifestyle, or experience
- Be treated in a manner that does not take away their control, but empowers them to determine their own needs and how to meet those needs
- Be provided with information about options for action and determine whether or not they wish to report to law enforcement
- Have an advocate with them during all medical and legal procedures
- Be treated with dignity and respect by medical, mental health, and legal personnel
