Our Workshop Philosophy
CAPS workshops emphasize interactive experience as it allows participants to engage emotionally and relationally as well as intellectually. That’s in contrast to a didactic (lecture) model of education in which a presenter talks and attendees “absorb” the content presented. To succeed the interactive format requires participants to actively interact with each other and take some (mild) emotional risks.
The intended outcome of all our workshops is behavior change be those internal habits of mind (e.g. attitudes, thoughts or beliefs) or more physical/external patterns (e.g. ways of interacting with others). Congruent with our mission, the behavioral change we seek is always in the service of improved psychosocial health and well-being. We know what research continues to confirm: Psychological and social health is the prerequisite to realizing the full academic potential of this Great Beaver Nation!
