2009 International Workshop on Smoltification

The workshop will take invited guests on a tour throughout the state of Oregon. The workshop will begin at the Hilton Garden Inn located adjacent to Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon.

Our workshop will then move to the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon, and then to the Oregon Hatchery Research Center in Alsea, Oregon. We will return to the University (oregonstate.edu) before travelling to Sunriver, Oregon with visits to the Fish Performance and Salmon Disease laboratories and Willamette Fish Hatchery along the way.

Manuscript Submission and Publication:

Workshop manuscripts for publication in Aquaculture are due at the time of the workshop. Please bring two hard (paper) copies and one electronic (CD) copy with you to the workshop. Please follow the “Guide for Authors” for Aquaculture by visiting the journal’s website here.

Oral and Poster Papers:

Due August 1, 2009

Include authors name(s) (presenter’s name underlined), affiliation, e-mail addresses, and paper or poster title. No abstract is required.

Oral Papers—limited to 20 minutes per paper, inclusive of time for questions (time length may change depending on number received). Power Point projectors and computers will be available. Please e-mail a copy of your presentation to OSU Conference Services (conferences@oregonstate.edu) a couple of days prior to the workshop so that we can ensure it runs on our machines. Bring a copy of your presentation on a flash (USB, thumb) drive as well.

Posters—No format restrictions. If you do not want to travel carrying a poster, you can overnight mail it a few days before the workshop to:

Registration includes Accommodations and Meal Packages-
Because of the remote locations of many of the meeting sites, most meals will be provided and hence participants and accompanying guests will need to purchase these meals as a package. This can also be done with a single entry during registration. See below for detail.

-Accommodations:
Hotel reservations will be made for all participants at the designated meeting/hotel sites. Costs are based on negotiated room rates and meeting room usage. The registration website will allow you to register for overnight rooms at all locations with a single entry. Alternate lodging is not available. Book your lodging on the “Registration” link.

For your reference, Sunday and Tuesday nights will be at the Hilton Garden Inn Corvallis Monday night will be at the Embarcadero in Newport , Wednesday and Thursday night will be at Sunriver Resort.

-Meals:
Given the remoteness of many of the workshop venues, meals will be provided. To sign up for the meal package, please go to “Registration”. The Meal Package includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and breaks from Sunday evening through Thursday evening with the exception of Monday’s dinner and Tuesday’s breakfast. Please note that dining establishments are available for those two meals (in Newport). Some meal costs offset the meeting room costs where appropriate. Other meal costs have been subsidized by donors.

-Accompanying Guest Meals:
To sign up for the accompanying guest meals please go to “Registration”.

Travel & Airports:
Portland International Airport (PDX) is the nearest international airport. It is nearly 2 hours form Corvallis via shuttle. Contact HUT Shuttle for transportation to and from Portland International Airport.

Eugene is the closest airport. Airport code is EUG. You can make convenient connections to Seattle, San Francisco, and Denver. It is about 45 minutes drive from Corvallis. Contact OmniShuttle for transportation to and from Eugene Airport (EUG).

If you are flying out of the Redmond, OR (RDM) airport, a shuttle from Sunriver to Redmond is available at an additional cost of $35, to be payable at the workshop. Please contact us with your name and flight information. In the subject header, please indicate that your message is in regard to the Smoltification Workshop.
