The Symposium

We are pleased to announce that the 9th International Symposium on the Microbiology of Aerial Plant Surfaces will be held at the campus of Oregon State University from August 15-18, 2010. The meeting seeks to bring together researchers from the plant and the microbial side and will include the areas of aerobiology, anatomy, bacteriology, biochemistry, biological control, micro-meteorology, mycology, plant physiology, plant pathology, and molecular biology in order to further our understanding the ecology of foliar plant surfaces in both aquatic and terrestrial environments. The scientific program will include invited speakers, posters, and oral presentations to be chosen from submitted abstracts as well as round-table discussions to stimulate interactions. At least partial support to enable graduate students and others who would otherwise be unable to attend should be available.

The meeting is occurring just prior and only a quick hop (250 mile/400km) by train, car or plane south of the 13th meeting of the International Society for Microbial Ecology in Seattle, Washington (August 22-27).

Interested in presenting a paper at the conference? Information about abstract submission will be available on this website soon. Please check back!

Attend presentations on these topics and more:

• Phyllosphere as a reservoir of human pathogens
• Biological control in the Phyllosphere
(plant pathogens, insects, and human pathogens)
• Immigration and emigration of Phyllosphere flora
• The molecular ecology of the phyllosphere
• Population structure and dynamics of phyllosphere biota
• Methods for exploring the phyllosphere
• Multitrophic interactions in the phyllosphere
