10th Japan-US Seminar:
Genome-Enabled Integration of Research in Plant Pathogen Systems
In a joint communiqué issued in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy and Japanese Prime Minister Hayato Ikeda, a cooperative program was established to broaden the scope of scientific cooperation between the two countries.
The Japan-US Seminar on Plant-Pathogen Interactions resulted from this communiqué and has provided a recurring forum for the assembly of a diverse group of research leaders from both countries for the purpose of fostering scientific collaborations, exchanging ideas and materials, and critically discussing research on molecular aspects of plant/pathogen interactions.
The theme for this, the tenth seminar in the series, is: Genome-enabled integration of
research in plant-pathogen systems. The workshop will focus on how continually-expanding genomic resources are enabling research in plant pathogen interactions and the challenges associated with the transition to systems-level integrative research.

The workshop is being jointly organized by scholars from both Japan and the US. Japanese organizers include Dr. Tomonori Shiraishi from the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology at Okayama University and Dr. Kazuya Akimitsu from the Faculty of Agriculture at Kagawa University. US organizers include Dr. Alan Collmer from Cornell University, Dr. Jane Glazebrook from the University of Minnesota and Dr. Tom Wolpert from Oregon State University. The meeting is currently planned for January 25-28th, 2010. The proceedings of the Seminar will be published and available through APS press.
