"4-H and Extension Service District" Internship
What: Internship opportunities for students who want to help education, youth, or the political process while they sharpen their skills.

Wanted:  Responsible, dependable interns to assist with promoting a political initiative to form "4-H and Extension Service District" in Linn County. 

We are seeking help with fund-raising, marketing and promotion, designing our web-page, public relations and public speaking, research, and taking the concerns to K-12 and higher education institutions and Linn County communities.  You may choose one or more of these areas of focus for your internship experience, or be creative and suggest your own ideas.

Student Sustainability Initiative End of the Year Bash!

Join SSI staff and volunteers to celebrate this year's accomplishments!  We will have FREE FOOD, yard games, a slideshow, brainstorm board for next year, and lots of fun people to talk to!  This is our chance to say thank you to everyone and recap the year, as well as introduce people to our new staff and say our goodbyes to outgoing staff.  All are welcome, even if this is the first SSI event you will come to!

Volunteer! Benton Soil and Water Conservation District:  Fish Passage Improvement Program

Join the BFPIP team today and make a difference!

The Program:  Field work, conducted by teams of 3 volunteers, includes the collection of fish passage data, culvert surveys and GPS/computer use.  Data is submitted to Benton County engineers to aid decision making and the prioritization of culvert replacement projects.  Visit our web site to learn more.

The Volunteers:
Volunteers attend training sessions to learn culvert survey techniques, data reporting formats and GPS/computer skills.

Two tentative Saturdays are on the calendar for training sessions:  June 7th and or June 14th
raining session will last about 3 hours 9 AM – Noon.

Six basic requirements for Fish Passage volunteers:

  1. Must feel comfortable with computers.
  2. Participate in initial training - one full day probably a Saturday or Sunday.
  3. Expect to be out in the field 2 full days in a month.
  4. Participate through the field season. June - September
  5. Must be comfortable with working hard outdoors.
  6. Must have a valid driver's license.

The English Language Institute (ELI) at OSU is in URGENT need of volunteer conversants for our 2008 summer session.
 Conversants meet with a group of 4 to 6 international students over lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. once a week during the work week so our ELI students can practice speaking English.  

Conversants pick the day they would like to meet during the week (Monday through Friday), and meet six or seven times during summer term -- June 30th through August 8th.  We have students coming from countries like Japan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Taiwan, S. Korea, and much more and they look forward to the opportunity to practice speaking English!

Position Opening: Enrich the Lives of Youth at Risk

Program Title: The Harding Renaissance Arts Mentoring Program

Job Title: Mentoring Coordinator - An AmeriCorps VISTA position offering great
opportunities for growth and leadership.

Purpose: To recruit, train, and support volunteer mentors who are creative
and environmentally conscious. The goal is to develop high school students’
appreciation for their surroundings while strengthening their self concept,
creative initiative, and sense of social responsibility. The mentoring program
facilitates artistic creativity and environmental awareness by fostering
relationships with students.  As the program provides affirmation and
accountability, the students will recognize a greater level of social
competence and academic achievement.

Benefits: Living Stipend of $833 a month, Education Award of $4725 OR a Cash
Award of $1200, Health Insurance, Relocation Allowance, Child Care Allowance
(if eligible)

Location: The Harding Center, 510 NW 31st Street, Corvallis

Key Responsibilities:

1. Evaluate existing mentoring program and exact needed adjustments
2. Develop relationships with staff and students
3. Recruit, train, and support mentors
4. Plan and schedule events
5. Recruit students and track their progress in the program
6. Manage incidents
7. Prepare and manage budget
8. Network and generate support in the community for the program
9. Acquire funding for sustainability
10. Report to school administration

Reports to: School administrator

Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or minimum of two years experience in
youth program directing or coordinating. Should have additional experience
working with youth in a direct capacity. Proficiency in written and oral
communication. A strong, developed appreciation for the arts. Basic computer
operation skills. Public speaking competency.
