The Women Studies Program has a yearly scholarship - The Judy Mann DiStefano Memorial Scholarship. Dr. Judy Mann DiStefano's commitment to feminism, activism, and pacificism were reflected in her role as a history professor at Northern Virginia Community College. Her roots were in the Northwest, and her mother, Jane Goodale Mann, was a graduate of Oregon State University. This scholarship provides an annual $2,000 stipend to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in the Women Studies Program at Oregon State University. Undergraduate students must be working on a Minor or Certificate in Women Studies. Graduate students must have Women Studies as their primary and/or secondary area of study for the MAIS degree or must be working on a Graduate Minor in conjunction with a Masters or Ph.D. in another department. Selection criteria include academic excellence, commitment to feminist ideals, and financial need. A complete application includes the summary application form, essay, financial aid information, and two letters of recommendation. Applications will be ready for distribution at the end of March or early April.

There are some opportunities for assistantships in Women Studies although funding is limited. All assistantships are at least .25 FTE or the equivalent of 10 hours per week and involve teaching assistant or program assistant duties. An assistantship will also provide a tuition waiver for you for the duration of the award. Please note that the number and type of assistantships vary yearly. Decisions are made in late spring for the following year but occasionally will be made ongoing during the year on a term-by-term basis. Preference is given to students who declare Women Studies as a primary area in the M.A.I.S. program, or who are working on a graduate minor in Women Studies.
