Scholarships
For new students (in-coming freshman) who have applied to financial aid and have declared English as their intended major:
The School of Writing, Literature, and Film Scholarship Committee solicits a selection of students from the above category who have higher GPA's and SAT scores (3.5 and above; 1600 and above) every spring term. These select students are invited to apply for the following two scholarships via a returned cover letter and essay assignment. This is a merit based scholarship.
Sigurd H. Peterson Scholarship
- 4,000 per year based toward full in-state tuition and renewable for three years after the first by maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or better in the major and a GPA of 3.0 or better in the overall course of study.
- Admittance to Oregon State University, invitation to apply, and completed application by April 5, 2013.
Bernard Malamud Scholarship
- 1,000 for the freshman year paid in three increments applied to the student account per term.
- Admittance to Oregon State University, invitation to apply, and completed application by April 5, 2013
For current English majors
Any English major with a GPA of at least 3.5 in English courses and undergraduate standing for the 2011-2012 year is eligible to apply. Applications (available in the main office, Moreland 238) should be received by April 5, 2013.
Sigurd H. Peterson
Provides one year's resident tuition for an English major who will be a Junior of Senior in 2013-2014.
Mary Holaday Murray
Provides $1000 for a 2013-2014 Sophomore, Junior, or Senior of exceptional academic promise.
Raleigh Clare Dickinson
Provides $1000 for an English major of any class-standing, 2013-2014 undergraduate.
Mary Jo Bailey
Provides $100 for a woman English major in 2013-2014.
