Course Description:  Cognition is the process of perceiving, attending, remembering, and making decisions about the world around us.  Applied Cognition takes the knowledge, theories, and methodologies of human cognition and uses them to improve performance in real-world settings (e.g., in the workplace, education, medicine, sports, eyewitness testimony, or everyday activities).  This graduate-level course will focus on critical thinking in applied cognitive psychology.  We will survey a range of applied cognitive research topics and study their successful and non-successful applications.  This seminar will have two components.  First, we will read, discuss, and critically evaluate studies related to applied cognition.  Students are expected to actively engage in discussions.  Second, each student will propose and present a research project on some topic within the field of applied cognition.  To enroll in this course, students should have a solid background in Cognitive Psychology.
