Introduction to Political Thought (PS 206) - Syllabus
Instructor:
Seth Tichenor
GLEASON HALL 200
(MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS 12:00-1:50)

This course introduces students to the broad range of topics and approaches in political theory. We will focus on some of the central issues of political theory, and will explore them through reading and discussing an array of historical and contemporary works.

The aims of the course are essentially twofold. First, the student should become familiar with the material in the course. S/he should be able to discuss the issues, positions and arguments that we cover, both verbally and in writing, in an informed way. Second, the course will also emphasize the development of skills in critical reading, thinking, and effective communication. These are skills that are central to a liberal arts education, and will be essential to the student's future success, whatever his or her chosen profession or field.
