Who Owns the Sky? The Tragedy or Triumph of the Commons

 

The Local Commons and the Common Good: Land Trusts, Watershed Councils and the Conservation of Endangered Species

The commons is a social agreement as well as a physical space, involving private as well as public property. Whether we are trying to protect salmon or Kincaid's lupine, oak woodlands or whole watersheds, restoring and sustaining the commons requires the engagement - not the exclusion - of ordinary citizens.
