Charles Wilkinson's talk for IDEAS MATTER told an extraordinary story about the tragedy of the enclosure of the commons that took place literally in our backyards, as miners and politicians broke treaty after treaty to seize land that had been set aside for Indians. How did the people understand their relation to the land? How might a commons be partially restored or reimagined in coast range national forests today?
More than 160 people were there for the lecture, many of them from Siletz and many faculty and students.
