UNDERGRADUATE ALUMNI of the DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

Victoria Agnew(Philosophy major, 2001): Victoria has been working in the IT department at California State University, Fullerton for the past four years. Starting in January 2006, she will start working towards earning an MA in Linguistics. Also, Victoria was married in Scotland over the summer of 2004.

David Anderson(Philosophy major, 1998): David is working as a technical writer in Corvallis. He has written over 100 technical manuals in the past four years. In 2001, he published a college-level textbook on ancient myth and religion.

Carrie Bailey(Philosophy major, 2003): Carrie is working for Americorp as a Youth Program Coordinator and Literacy Tutor in Linn County, Oregon. She has also been active in generating public support for a county-wide library system in Linn County.

Kimberly Baldwin(Philosophy major, 1999): Kimberly is married to Xuan and they have one child (Teo). They live in a small fishing village in Luanco, Spain, where Kimberly gives private lessons in speaking English to pre-schoolers.

Victor Becerra(Philosophy major, 2001): Victor is married to Elizabeth and currently living in Salem. Following graduation, Victor enlisted in the Oregon Army National Guard, and completed office candidate school, infantry officer's basic course, ranger school, and airborne school. He served as a platoon leader in Operation Iraqi Freedom and as a trainer for the Iraqi army.

Brant Blodgett (Philosophy major, 1988): Brant married Karen in 1994. They have two daughters, Emma (7), and Elizabeth (4) and a cat, Chaplin, and reside in Tigard, Oregon. Their hobbies include wine tasting, golf, basketball, and grilling with friends. Brant leads a group of volunteers in St. Vincent de Paul service for the poor. In 2004, Brant formed BKB Associates, Inc., a distributor of products used in the manufacturing process, with Contamination Control, Static Control, Ergonomics, and Safety at the core.

Brian Bourne(Philosophy minor, 2002): Brian has been teaching English to high school students in Nantes, France.

Esther Brady(Philosophy major, 2006): Esther is now in grad school in Durham, England (in the NE), and she is pursuing her MA in International Relations: Middle East. Esther had the opportunity as an undergrad to attend school in Jordan, and says "my time abroad in Jordan definitely impacted my future in a way I never would have dreamt of."

Barbara Brough(Philosophy major, 1994): Barbara completed her MSW at Portland State University in 2004. Since August 2004, she has been employed by Legacy Health Systems as a Clinical Resource Coordinator. Barbara says, "I work as a float in all four of the Portland area hospitals and enjoy my work immensely. I encounter new challenges and experiences every day." Barbara also says that she credits the OSU Philosophy Department for "teaching me how to think, organize, and communicate effectively."

Diana Buccafurni(Applied Ethics, 2001): Diana is beginning her third year in the Ph.D. program in Philosophy at the University of Utah, where she is concentrating in biomedical ethics. She is also an ethics instructor at Utah Valley State College.

Emily Campagna(Philosophy major, 2004): Emily has graduated with the degree of Medical Doctor from Albert Einstein college of Medicine, New York, NY.  She has been accepted to the UC Davis Medical Center for a residency in Emergency Medicine.  

Benjamin Dally(Philosophy major, 2000): Benjamin completed an MBA in Finance at the University of Colorado in 2003. He is now working as National Account Manager for a small software company in Austin, Texas.

Jacob Degraw(Philosophy major, 2003): Jacob works for the United Parcel Service in Tualitin, Oregon. He is looking forward to a career with strong job security, and hopes to be able to support his alma mater and attend some football games. He describes OSU as his home away from home and has nothing but happy memories from his days in Corvallis.

Margaret Fiorino(Philosophy major, 1972): Margaret has her own law practice in Portland. The website for the practice is here!

Benjamin Ford(Philosophy major, 1997): Benjamin is currently practicing immigration law in Las Vegas, Nevada. He spent the summer of 2004 in Iraq, passed the Nevada State Bar in February 2005, and just separated from active duty in the U.S. Air Force, JAG corps.

James Gray(Philosophy major, 1996): James is "living the dream" with his lovely wife of eleven years, Tania, and their beautiful daughter, Summer. He is currently an Investor Relations Manager with the Partnership for Economic Development in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He has found that his life path has been especially influenced by the ethics teaching he received at OSU from Prof. Lani Roberts.

Eric Grey(Philosophy major, 2003): Eric is studying to be licensed in naturopathic medicine in Portland.

Julie Grizzel-Meyers(Philosophy major, 2003): Julie is married to Doug and is working as a pharmacy technician for Fred Meyer. She is very grateful for her education in philosophy, and feels that there is a divine purpose to her life that she is seeking to explore and reveal.

Aaron Hougham(Philosophy major, 2005): Aaron is currently cycling the United States coast-to-coast with the father of his girlfriend, Krysta. After a year away from school, Aaron plans on attending medical school.

Sonia Huntsman(Philosophy major, 2001): Sonia is a third year law student at Willamette and is also working a law clerkship at the Department of Justice in the Civil Recovery section. Sonia has also adopted a dog from the Humane Society who she credits with helping her keep things in perspective. Sonia looks forward to finishing her schooling in May 2006.

Katie Hubler (Philosophy major, 2001): Katie is a third-year PhD student at Boston College studying Intellectual History, German History and Gender/Sexuality. She teaches European History at Boston College and works at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Investment Management Company. In March 2003, Katherine married Kevin Stoller, a PhD student in History of Science at Harvard.

Jason Jordan (Philosophy major, 2004): Jason is starting graduate school at the University of Oregon in Fall 2005.

Lynn Kelly (Philosophy major, 2005): Lynn is living in Albany, California with her daughter, Meghan. Lynn is attending Starr King Seminary and will someday have her own congregation to lead.

SreyRam Kuy(Philosophy major, 2000): SreyRam is a General Surgery Resident at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Allison Lawrence(Philosophy major, 2005): Allison has been accepted into the MA Women's Studies program at Claremont in Southern California. Until she starts in the fall of 2006, she will be working in Belize with women and children there.

Jennifer Mayo(Philosophy major, 2000): Jennifer recently completed her second year of medical school at Oregon Health and Sciences University. She is very involved with Medical Students for Choice.

Richard McConochie(Philosophy major, 2001): Richard was recently admitted into the School of Architecture at the University of Oregon.

Rachel McVean(Philosophy major, 1999): Rachel completed law school at the University of British Columbia in the summer of 2005, and is now preparing to take the Bar exam in California and New York. She is currently living in Redding, California.

Shawna Meyer(Philosophy major, 1996): Shawna went to Willamette Law School from 1997-2000. She is now working at Mcneil Law Office at Orenco Station in Hillsboro. She practices civil litigation, corporate/businesss, employment law, and some juvenile and immigration law. She is the mother of Kiara, age 6, and Amaya, age 3. Janice K. Moulton(Philosophy major, 1965): Janice recently retired from teaching at Golden Gate University and lives with her husband in Castro Valley, California. Following her graduation from OSU, she worked in Washington DC on the staff of Sen. Jordan from Idaho, and then worked for the New York State Council for the Arts in New York City. She moved to San Francisco and received her MA in Interdisciplinary Humanities at San Francisco State, and subsequently taught in the Humanities Department at Golden Gate University for 23 years, serving as department chair for numerous years. She now does volunteer work, helps with her grandchildren and still teaches two courses each year at Golden Gate. Over the course of her life journey, she has found the courses taught by Prof. Warren Hovland invaluable in her life.

Mindy Mullins(Philosophy major, 2001): Mindy married Jonathan Haidle on July 30, 2005. Since graduating at OSU she has spent time in Washington DC as a congressional intern and this past school year taught literature and history to 8th graders in Beaverton, Oregon.

Ryon Nicholson(Philosophy major, 2004): Ryon is apparently putting his philosophy skills to good use by playing poker for a living. Recently, Ryon has started a poker t-shirt company called "Card Sharps." He is also in the process of writing a book about the philosophical aspects of poker and the impact it has on an individual.

Michael Olsen(Philosophy, 2002): Michael served in the Peace Corps in the Central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan. Following completion of his service, he traveled in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Michael is now beginning his service as an Americorps VISTA volunteer "Leader" in Tallahassee, Florida. He will help supervise about 18 Americorps volunteers in their efforts to provide "Student Services" (Special Extra-curricular activities, such as computer labs) to communities in need.

Clark Petri (Philosophy major, 2005): Clark was married to his favorite dance partner, Tovah, shortly after graduation. Clark is an officer in the U.S. Navy stationed in San Diego, with frequent sea voyages. He writes that "a life at sea makes me value my time at college, especially in the philosophy department."

Brian Plinski(Philosophy major, 2002): Brian is currently completing his MAIS at Oregon State University.

Ravi Puri(Philosophy major, 1999): Ravi has been working as an attorney for almost three years. He says that his philosophy studies, especially ethics,have contributed to his work. Ravi hopes to settle down in the Northwest and to marry in the next year or two.

Jason Regier(Philosophy major, 1997): Following a spinal cord injury that left him partially paralyzed, Jason has made the U.S. rugby team high performance training program. He played with the USA team in the world wheelchair games in Brazil in September 2005 and they won a gold medal! Jason has also finished his MBA and has worked on a movie which tells part of his story. Check out the website at http://www.thegoal-movie.com/index.html.

Jane O. Ross(Philosophy major, 1994): After OSU, Jane attended the U. of Iowa College of Law and then Arizona State Univ. School of Justice and Social Inquiry, taught at Concord University School of Law and at ASU (courses in constitutional law, legal reasoning, research and writing, criminal law and procedure, social science research methodology, etc. etc). When she ran out of funding for grad school, she started a successful law firm that serves excusively the LGBT community (www.thejrossfirm.com). All of this while she raised a lovely daughter, and survived breast cancer three times. Jane says she is still a heretic by most people's measure in that even though she's mellowed with age, she still refuses to subscribe to the ordinary and unquestioned without questioning even if that amounts to blasphemy. Her favorite quote: Great minds will always encounter violent opposition from mediocre ones. Finally, she still believes, like Gandhi, we must be the change we want to see in the world.

Katy Rivers-Skinner(Philosophy major, 1992): Katy is a stay-at-home mom for her 6-year-old son, Bert, and two-year-old son, Heath, and her husband of eleven years, Joshua. They live in Yacolt, Washington, distinguished as a home to lumberjacks and raucous bake sales. She feels she has a philosophy tome waiting to be written, but in the meantime, she enjoys corresponding by email at thecitychicken@yahoo.com.

Keri Ann Smith(Philosophy major, 2000): Keri Ann Smith graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law in spring 2003.

Annelisa Smith (Applied Ethics, 2000): Annelisa is beginning her second year of law school at Vermont School of Law, where she is studying environmental law.

Shireen Soltani(Philosophy major, 2001): Shireen is the founder and international liaison for the Center for the Advancement of Women (villages of Karaj) in Iran. Se writes grants for the center, which can be accessed at www.cawiran.org

Bart Spencer (Philosophy major, 1988): Bart will be celebrating 17 years of marriage in January 2006, including a family life with three beautiful children. He is employed at Freightliner. In 2003, Bart became a Catholic Christian and declares that "the search is over!"

Marguerite Strobel (Applied Ethics, 1998): Marguerite has been appointed IRB coordinator at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. Followed her studies at OSU, she has been a research assistant at The Hastings Center, and has received a M.A.R. from Yale Divinity School and an M.A. from Columbia University (2003).

Jennifer Ricks Terrill(Philosophy major, 1998): Jennifer was married in 2000 and gve birth to her daughter, Olivia, in 2003. She has been working as a child welfare social worker for the past four years. In fall 2005, Jennifer will be starting in the MSW program at Portland State University.

Letetia Wilson(Philosophy major, 2002): Letetia is currently completing her MAIS at Oregon State University.

Dale Yee(Philosophy major, 2000): Dale is engaged to be married to Elizabeth Wong of Portland. He is presently employed as a Human Resources Generalist at Gage Industries. Dale served as a member of the US Marine Corps in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.

Katie M. (Zentner) Hamlyn (Philosophy, 2003): Katie (now) Hamlyn currently works as the Development Director for the Women's Crisis Support Team in Grants Pass.
