New Media Communications

The rapid pace of change in media technology in the last 100 years has posed unique challenges. No dimension of human life has been unaffected by the developments in communication; family life, politics, business, religion, education, recreation, international relations—all these and more have been influenced by the capabilities that media provide.

The New Media Communications Program at OSU prepares students to manage change in the media. Our focus is on the storytelling capacity of the media. Students learn the skills they need to use today’s media to share knowledge, imagination, and information. Students also learn to anticipate how future changes in the media are likely to influence their lives. In our courses students learn how to make abstract concepts or hidden processes visible, how to anticipate people’s reactions to innovation, how to write professionally, how to recognize the influence of media, how to produce creative content in a variety of media formats, and much more. Our goal is to prepare students for a lifetime of change in the media. Watch as former student, David Nicholas, talks about New Media Communications.
