Upcoming Concert Band News

Due to the numerous requests from the students, the Symphonic Band will begin in the fall term this year! The group will be under the direction of Dr. Chapman and will perform repertoire considered ‘must-plays’ in the wind band genre. Rehearsals will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:30 pm in the Beard Band Hall in Benton Hall. Students interested in performing in this ensemble should consider auditioning for the wind ensemble on September 27th. Seating assignments will be made for both ensembles after those hearings are complete.

The United States Marine Band, “The President’s Own” is coming to OSU! The concert is being held on October 8th, 8:00 pm at the LaSells Stewart Center. Don’t miss this opportunity to see one of the premier wind bands in the world!

OSUWE tours San Francisco! The OSUWE has been invited to perform a concert with the University of California Wind Ensemble in Berkeley, California on April 25th. This is a terrific opportunity for alumni living in the area to be ‘carried back to OSU’!

Welcome to the OSU Wind Ensemble!

Conducted by Dr. Christopher Chapman, the Oregon State University Wind Ensemble is a 47-member ensemble, which features the most outstanding brass, woodwind, and percussion players on campus.

The focus of this ensemble is to explore new literature as well as perform the masterworks of the wind band genre. The groups’ latest commissions include works by Ostwald winning composers Gregory Youtz, Michael Coolen and David Gillingham. Recent programs have included original music for wind ensemble by such notable composers as John Mackey, David Maslanka, Philip Sparke, David Dzubay, and Ron Nelson. The OSU Wind Ensemble has recently been featured at the Oregon Music Educators Conference and at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Open to all students, auditions are held prior to the start of the academic year. The ensemble rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the Captain Beard Band Hall in historic Benton Hall.

Wind Ensemble auditions are Sunday, September 27.  For more information, click here.
