Upcoming Concert Band Events

The OSU Symphonic Band and Campus Band join forces to present an outdoor concert of classic band repertoire on Parker Plaza, May 21st at 7:30 pm. Admission is free.

Join the OSU Wind Ensemble for a Short Ride in a Fast Machine on May 27th at the LaSells Stewart Center on the campus of OSU, 7:00 pm. Tickets are $10.00 at the door, OSU students and faculty with I.D. are free of charge. Featured on this performance are soloists Fred Korman, principal oboe of the Oregon Symphony and Jason Ham, principal Euphonium of the United States Army Band at West Point. Featured will be compositions by John Adams, William Bolcom, David Gillingham (piece commissioned with consortium from the OSU Wind Ensemble) and John Mackey.

The OSU Wind Ensemble goes on tour! May 28th the ensemble will perform in concert with the Summit High School Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dan Judd in Bend, Oregon. The Wind Ensemble will then travel to Ashland, Oregon on May 29th to play with the Ashland High School Wind Ensemble, conducted by Jon Soderberg-Chase.

The OSU Chamber Winds presents an evening of lighter repertoire on June 4th at the 1st Congregational Church in Corvallis. Featured on this performance is Becky Jeffers and Angela Carlson on piano and Carl Egbert on String Bass. Tickets are $10.00 at the door. Composers include Francaix, Dvorak, Maslanka, Strauss and Maschek.

Upcoming Jazz Concerts

The OSU Jazz Ensemble travels to Portland to be featured in the “Music ‘til Midnight” concert at Aloha High School at 8:00 pm. Please check the Aloha High School website for more details.

On May 17th, the OSU Jazz Ensemble will be in performance at Corvallis High School. Three Jazz Ensembles will be featured: The Corvallis High School Jazz Ensemble, The MPG Big Band from Shorndorf, Germany and the OSU Jazz Ensemble. This is sure to be an exciting evening of jazz! Welcome to the OSU Wind Ensemble!

Conducted by Dr. Christopher Chapman, the Oregon State University Wind Ensemble is a 47-member ensemble, which features the most outstanding brass, woodwind, and percussion players on campus.

The focus of this ensemble is to explore new literature as well as perform the masterworks of the wind band genre. The groups’ latest commissions include works by Ostwald winning composers Gregory Youtz, Michael Coolen and David Gillingham. Recent programs have included original music for wind ensemble by such notable composers as John Mackey, David Maslanka, Philip Sparke, David Dzubay, and Ron Nelson. The OSU Wind Ensemble has recently been featured at the Oregon Music Educators Conference and at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Open to all students, auditions are held prior to the start of the academic year. The ensemble rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the Captain Beard Band Hall in historic Benton Hall.
