Michael Bevington is trombone instructor at Oregon State University and Western Oregon University. Prior to teaching at the college level, Bevington had a successful career as a high school band director, leading the Jefferson (Ore.) High School Band to OSAA state championships in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007; and the Jefferson High School Jazz Band to first place at the Pleasant Hill Jazz Festival in 2007. Additionally, he has served as a consultant for the West Albany (Ore.) High School Jazz Ensemble, and was the jazz band director at Memorial Middle School. He has also taught private lessons to middle and high school low brass students in the Albany School District for 10 years.
An active adjudicator by invitation in local school district band competitions, Bevington judged the VALCO League in February of 2008, and OMEA District 7 and 10 in April of 2008. He has also has served as the music coordinator for the Northwest Band Camp since 1988.
As a community musician, Bevington has served as the director of the Heartland Big Band for 15 years, and has been a member of the Albany Swing Band and the Salem Big Band for 10 years. He has performed with the Willamette Valley Brass Quintet and as guest soloist with the Willamette Valley Concert Band. He has also worked throughout the Willamette Valley as a professional musician in local jazz and concert ensembles.
Bevington holds a Master of Music Education from the University of Oregon and a bachelor’s degree from Western Oregon University. He makes his home in Albany, Oregon.
