Jay Chen recieved his bachelor's degree from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in China and his master's degree from Oregon State University. He teaches trumpet and directs brass ensembles at Oregon State and Willamette universities. He is also the principal trumpet for the Portland and Eugene operas. He has performed with the Oregon Symphony, Eugene Symphony, the Oregon Bach Festival, and the Cascade, Sunriver and Oregon Coast music festivals. He has served as a member of the trumpet faculty for the Marrowstone Music Festival and the Young Musicians and Artists summer camp. In addition, Chen regularly travels to China to teach and perform.
