Julia Goodwin joined the music faculty as an adjunct instructor in 2007. She teaches Piano, Group Piano, Keyboard Harmony, Music Appreciation, Music History, and Genre Studies. Goodwin also accompanies both vocalists and instrumentalists. In addition, she is an adjunct professor in OSU’s History Department. She holds a B.Mus. in piano performance from Oberlin College, an M.A. in history from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a Ph.D. in modern European history from the University of Rochester.

An active performer, Goodwin has most recently given recitals in Wellington, New Zealand, and appeared as a member of the Corvallis-OSU Symphony Orchestra. She has taught piano professionally for more than twenty years, serving on the faculty of Rochester, New York’s highly respected Hochstein School of Music before taking up her post at OSU. She has also taught at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Rochester, the Rochester Institute of Technology, the State University of New York at Buffalo, and Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where she has offered courses in Western Civilization, Europe and the Two World Wars, National Identity, German history, Eastern European history, Russian history, and college-level writing. During her first year at OSU, Goodwin developed and taught a unique course called “Music and Social Responsibility,” which she designed to aid students in exploring their own relationship to music and its broader application to society.
