Busses will start arriving around 9:00 AM. Busses will pull up in front of LaSells Stewart Center and wait for instructions. Please remain ON the bus until I, or one of my assistants, have greeted you and given you your packets, nametags, maps, and schedules. A guide will lead you into the building and direct you to your seats. Please wait to use the restroom until after you have found your seat. Once the busses have been unloaded, they can park right across the street in the Reser Stadium parking lot. (Parking services is expected you and will not ticket you. Maps and directions are attached to this email).

MEALS:

Students are responsible for TWO meals on their own. Feel free to bring sack lunches. If you want to dine off campus, the MU and dining services are just a short walk away on campus. Bring cash. In addition to your basic café, there is also a Carl’s Junior, Panda Express, and a little Mexican place. In addition, there will be a courtesy beverage and snack table for teachers and chaperones in the lobby.

ATTIRE:

Please have your men wear whatever it is they wear as a men’s ensemble. In years past we have asked everyone to match, but this year I would like to see everyone in THEIR OWN concert attire. If you do not have normal concert attire, wear black slacks and white dress shirts. Robes are not necessary.

MUSIC:

Students should bring black folders with their music in it. NO ADDITIONAL COPIES OF MUSIC WILL BE PROVIDED. Please do not leave home without your music!

TICKETS:

All but a few schools should have received their comp tickets in the mail. If you have not, they are coming. If you are one of the three schools who did not receive tickets because we ran out, you should have an “E-Ticket” in your email. Please encourage as many parents and friends to come along as possible. Admission at the door is $5.00. Students are free. Every participant gets two free comps.

Additional Information

Come listen!

Do you love great choral singing? Join us all day, or part of the day, FREE of charge, and hear some of the best male singing talent in the state! The evening concert costs $5.00.

History and purpose:

2007 marked the first year of The OSU Men’s Chorus Festival. Through the years our goal has remained constant: male choristers gain new appreciation for male ensemble singing and participation in their own choral programs. As a part of their festival experience, high school males will have the opportunity to sing with over 200 male voices, representing high schools throughout Oregon, in addition to singing with The OSU Meistersingers and a special guest performance by Outspoken, OSU's premier men's a cappella ensemble. The festival includes a day of rehearsals with Dr. Steven Zielke and Hal Eastburn of the OSU Music Department, and will conclude with an evening concert featuring a mass chorus of festival participants together with the OSU Meistersingers. Schools are encouraged to bring their entire male ensemble and participate in the final evening concert. This year's final concert will showcase Tualatin High School's Men's Ensemble under the direction of Kim Kroeger, South Salem High School's Men's Ensemble under the direction of Lee Kirkegaard, McKay High School Men's Ensemble under the direction of Gretchen Longwell, and Crescent Valley High School's Men's Ensemble under the direction of Emily Thielen.

PARTICIPATE!

Who can participate?

Registration for the 2008 Men's Festival is now closed. If you still wish to participate, or if you need to make corrections to your registration, please contact Brice Cloyd.

The festival is open to ALL high school male singers. Directors are welcomed to bring their men’s sections or entire men’s choirs, or any male singer from a mixed ensemble. Registration is based on a per-singer fee.

How does it work?

The festival will take place at the LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon State University campus. Schools will provide their own transportation to and from the venue. Rehearsals will take place throughout the day, broken up by short breaks, performances by male vocal students from OSU, and a performance by OSU’s male a cappella group, Outspoken. Repertoire for the festival will be purchased individually by teachers to be given to students for preparation prior to the festival. Meals are not provided; singers should bring a lunch and will have time during the dinner break to walk to the OSU Memorial Union if desired. The evening concert is open to the public. Admission will be charged, but each participating singer will receive two free tickets to the concert. Concert attire should include a light colored top and dark bottoms.
