Allison Adah Johnson received degrees in music from Stanford University, CalArts, and UC San Diego, and studied gamelan in Surakarta, Java. Her works have been performed in Europe, Asia, and throughout the U.S. She has received grants and awards from American Composers Forum, American Music Center, Durfee Foundation, Irvine Foundation, Centrum Arts, and the Getty Foundation and has published and presented on such subjects as Asian American hip hop, film music, women composers, and sign/gesture technology. She has been a guest lecturer at Freie Universität Berlin, USC, and Mills College, and currently teaches at Soka University and Oregon State University. Her courses at OSU include: Global Pop, grunge music and the Beatles.
