2011-12 Chun Chiu Lectures & Conferences

In recent years, Taiwan studies has been a rising field in East Asian studies, and prestigious institutions in the United States and Europe have established programs focusing on Taiwan. In 2007 the OSU Department of History launched the Chun Chiu Lecture Series to explore Taiwan, greater China, and Asia from a comparative perspective. The Chun Chiu series is made possible by a generous gift from Chun Chiu, an OSU alumnus.

Past events include a 2007 lecture by Douglas Fix, professor of East Asian history and Chinese humanities at Reed College, and a 2008 lecture by Shiyung Liu, assistant research fellow at the Institute of Taiwan History, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. The endowment also supported the 2008 conference, “Buddhist Activism in Greater China and Beyond.”
