Food Projects
Current and previous Food Projects students have fulfilled their course requirements by writing articles for the websites of local food organizations. One such article was about the That's My Farmer SNAP Incentive Program. Another recounted the student's experience in the kitchen at Gathering Together Farm. Preparation to write the first of these articles included interviews (via phone and email) with Rebecca Landis, Farmers Market Director, Jen Christion Myers, Community Food Organizer for Ten Rivers Food Web and Marge Stevens, long time Corvallis Market volunteer. Preparation for the second article involved first-person experience shadowing J.C. Mersmann, the chef at Gathering Together Farm. Additional work by this Food Projects student included logging volunteer hours at the Chef Showoff at Linn Benton Community College, where she helped vendors get set up and answered questions for attendees.
Other Food Projects students have been involved with the OSU Emergency Food Pantry. The primary tasks for these students were to serve as pantry volunteers and to keep a journal about their experiences so that at the end of their term of service, they could make recommendations for ways to improve the service.
