Dr. Jun Xing is Professor of Ethnic Studies and Director of the Difference, Power and Discrimination Program at Oregon State University. Dr. Xing received his Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Minnesota at Twin Cities. He taught at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, before assuming his present position at Oregon State University.
Trained as a cultural historian, Dr. Xing specializes in U.S. immigration history, American ethnicity, popular culture, and the history of cultural relations between the United States and East Asia. For his research, he was awarded a Fulbright fellowship for the People's Republic of China, a Colorado Endowment for the Humanities research grant, a humanities fellowship from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy, an Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship from Emory University, and a Fred C. Andersen Foundation Fellowship from Carleton College.
Dr. Xing is the author/editor of Reversing the Lens: Ethnicity, Race, Gender and Sexuality through Film (2003), Asian America through the Lens: History, Representations, and Identity (1998), and Baptized in the Fire of Revolution: The American Social Gospel and the YMCA in China, 1919-1937 (1996). He has also published a substantial number of referred journal articles, book chapters and book reviews.
Dr. Xing serves on the editorial board of Oregon State University Press, Faculty Advisory Board of the Humanities Center, and Oregon University System China Advisory Board, among many other university and community services.
