Globalization/Localization

asian drawing

In this concentration students will investigate the processes of globalization and localization: how global forces impact and change communities and how communities react and advocate for themselves. Global forces from market to technology, political economy, media, or social movements affect life in local places such as rural or dislocated communities, often increasing inequalities. The goal of this concentration is to prepare students to help communities of various types to cope with the resulting tensions in a creative fashion and to aid institutions such as NGOs, corporations, and government or international agencies to operate sensitively and effectively in this era of intersecting worlds.
