SAGE Garden Volunteer Work Party
When: Tuesday Oct. 9th, 16th,
23rd, and 30th from 4:00pm-7:00pm (or dusk)
Description: Garden for a good cause! We need your help in the
garden doing all sorts of things from prepping soil and mulching to planting
and harvesting. As always, we’ll have fire-roasted garden pizzas from our cob
oven to share.

Description: As part of the Healthy Campus Initiative, the Be Well Walk/Run is the kickoff event that promotes health and wellness within the OSU Community. There will be a 5K run course and a 1 mile walk course featuring activity stations to engage participants in learning about the Healthy Campus Initiative including Physical Activity, Stress Management, Nutrition, and a Smoke-Free Campus. This is a free event to all participants.
We are looking for 50 volunteers to help out with the following:

ABC House Runaway Pumpkin Half Marathon 2012
When: Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27, 2012
Where: Cheadle Lake Park, Lebanon, OR (Hwy 20 & Weirich
Dr.)
Description: This event is a Half Marathon Fun
Race/Walk to raise money to help abused children. On Friday we need 5-10
volunteers help to set up tents, tables, barricades, banners, signs, etc
(10 am until 5 p). On Saturday we need volunteers to help deliver tables,
chairs, and other supplies to water stations, run a sound system (1) and help
with tear down and pack up at end. (8 am--2 pm). Anyone who helps with set
up on Friday for at least 4 hours will receive a free entry into Saturday's
race OR a volunteer T-shirt. Saturday volunteers will receive a volunteer
T-shirt and lunch.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, physicially able to carry or
move at least 25 pounds, ability to bend, stretch, climb a step ladder.

Boys & Girls Club Middle School Dance and Activities

Description: Between 350 and 500 middle school youth
attend each Club Night (Middle School Dance) and volunteers are essential to
provide a fun and safe event. Volunteers will rotate between helping chaperone
the dance, supervising gym games, and hanging out in the games room. This is a
dynamic volunteer opportunity for energetic groups and individuals.
October 26th THEME: Neon Halloween; January 18th THEME: College Team Night
Volunteers must pass a background check. Volunteer Orientation will be held
the day of the dance from 6:30pm-7:00pm.

Description: Remember when you played sports as a child? It
was fun, you made friends, it felt good and you learned to love the game.
You can help someone have this same experience. Make a difference in a
young person's life by becoming a volunteer coach for the Parks &
Recreation Department. Sign up now to coach Flag Football or Youth
Volleyball. It only takes 4 - 6 hours per week to share your love of the
sport with the children of Corvallis. Coaching is a fun and extremely
rewarding experience.

Description: Up Till Dawn is a charity event to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research hospital. St. Jude is a hospital that focuses on catastrophic child illnesses and specializes in career research and no family is ever asked to pay for care. Up Till Dawn is currently seeking members to form an executive council. Members of the executive council are in charge of organizing and running the event which will take place late winter term.

SMART- Start Making A Reader Today
When: Tuesdays or Thursdays now through mid-May (or as time
allows)
Where: Lincoln Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, Kings
Valley Charter School
Description: SMART is recruiting volunteers to
read one-on-one, once-a-week, with elementary school-aged children NOW at local
schools. We have a high need for Spanish readers at Lincoln Elementary on
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:15 - 9:15 and 12:00 - 1:00. One hour, once a
week is all it takes to help children read!

Boys & Girls Club Basketball Tournament Volunteer
When: December 8th, 8:00am-8:00pm, 3 hour shifts
Where: Boys & Girls Club, 1112 NW Circle Blvd,

Description: Join us at our basketball tournament and help
support basketball athletes by assisting with score keeping, operating the
scoreboard, and preparing courts between games. There is also an opportunity to
help with concessions.

Make A Difference Day is coming up on October 27th. This National Day of Service is a great opportunity to engage with your community through meaningful service projects. The CCE will have projects available for students to sign up for, so please look out for Make A Difference Day updates! If you would like more info on make a difference day, check out this website.
Register to Vote!
In order to participate in the November General Election, voters must be registered by Tuesday, October 16th. If you have moved since the last election you will need to re-register using your current address to ensure your ballot will reach you. It is not legal for anyone, including the post office, to forward your ballot.
Voter registration cards are available from the Associated Students of OSU in Snell Hall, the Memorial Union, and other campus locations. You can also register to vote online at the Oregon Secretary of State’s website: http://www.oregonvotes.org/.
Students may register to vote using their university address or their permanent home address. If you choose to register to vote at home but want your ballot sent to your school address, you will also need to apply for an Absentee Ballot.

Queer History Month Keynote Speaker Lt. Dan Choi
When: Wednesday October 3rd (TODAY) 6:00pm-7:30pm. Doors open at

Where: LaSells Stewart Center
Description: A gay activist who was discharged from the U.S. Army
under its “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy is delivering the keynote address at
next month’s Queer History Month celebration at Oregon State University. Lt.
Dan Choi, an LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) rights and veterans’
health activist will speak at 6 p.m., Oct. 3, in LaSells Stewart Center’s
Austin Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Center for Latin@ Studies and Engagement (CL@SE) Inaugural Week:
Seeking Common Ground
When: October 8th-October 11th
Description: As Oregon's Latino population continues to
rise, a new center at Oregon State University is working to address issues
crucial to the history, politics, and culture of this diverse group of people.
OSU’s new Center for Latin@ Studies and Engagement, or CL@SE, will celebrate
its arrival with a week of events Oct. 8-11. CL@SE is designed to meet the
research and outreach needs relating to Oregon’s Latino population, which
accounted for nearly half of the state’s growth over the last decade.
