Focus the Nation 2011: Transforming Our Energy Future is a free, one day clean energy forum on Saturday, February 26th from 9:45am-4:30pm.
We are mainly targeting students to attend who are interested in clean energy and environmental sustainability. However it isn't just for students in environmental majors; we would love engineering, political science, business, etc. to be present. We have Bill Bradbury (Oregon secretary of state 09-99 and 2011 gubernatorial candidate) as the keynote alongside one of our graduates who is working with Mountain Gear as their sustainability coordinator. We also have Thor Hinckley, manager of the PGE renewable energy program as a speaker, along with many other clean energy leaders from the area.
Our goal is to provide attendees with understanding of and next step ACTIONS for a clean energy future. In the afternoon a student-run engagement session, consisting of facilitated small group discussions, will involve the entire audience. Focusing on the key themes of energy transformation and how to foster effective intergenerational collaboration and action, participants will record their thoughts and questions. Afterward, an expert panel will address the key issues and themes that emerge from the day. This will be an opportunity for the audience to get direct feedback on their concerns and ideas.
Please see the agenda for the day here: http://climatechange.up.edu
If you have any questions please feel free to contact Colleen Butterfield - butterfi@up.edu. We are VERY excited about this event we just need to get people there! Please circulate to any students, student groups, faculty, staff, community members, etc who may be interested in attending. And of course it would be great to see you all there, too!

(WINTER TERM) February 12, 2011: "The day of the event we all meet at Crystal Lake Sports Park and Boat Ramp and will run into the cold water (hence the name, polar bear plunge)! Each participant (must raise a minimum of 50$) will receive incentives and prizes depending on how much money is donated. Each plunger will also receive food and drink for their bravery in the form of Starbucks and hot soup once the plunge is over! On campus rivalries may also be created, such as dorms competing against dorms or Greek house verse Greek house and prizes will also be awarded to the winners, this is known as the campus challenge. Last year the Plunge raised about $30,000 in Corvallis alone. It is a huge event that brings together OSU and the community." For more information view their website HERE.
(WINTER TERM) February 23 & 24, 2011: "Career Services are seeking volunteers for the winter term career fair. We would like to thank you for the volunteers you provide to assist us in the logistics and customer service aspects of past fair operations as we would not be able to conduct the fairs without the support of the volunteers. There is a need specifically for the 8:00AM to Noon period to help employers and displays to their tables. Need to gather volunteers by February 11th, 2011. Interested parties can contact Mike Mays at (541) 737-0520"
