Learning about Positions and Applying for Jobs
Applying for a job is the process of searching the Beaver JobNet
system for available job listings and submitting your uploaded
documents to the respective employers for review. Although a job is
listed in the system, you may not be able to apply for it. For example,
some jobs have been listed by employers, but are not made active for
application because certain details regarding the job have not yet been
finalized. Another reason why you may not be able to apply for a
particular job is that the employer may have restricted applicants to
those who meet certain criteria, such as specific major or student
status (junior, senior, graduate, etc.). When application restrictions
are in effect, the system indicates this in lieu of providing an
Apply hyperlink.
Helpful Hints
General Guidelines
- Beaver JobNet is updated daily during the academic term. Rresearch
information about the organizations in
which you are interested. Organizations set-up campus interviews
at any time throughout the academic year. Interview sign-ups may
also
begin at any time. It is your responsibility to check Beaver
JobNet frequently to find out about organizations that have
scheduled or changed a visit to Oregon State University.
- Be sure to check the Calendar section for a schedule of
company information meetings.
Before the Interview
- Submit all employer requested information/documentation well in
advance of deadlines through the Beaver Recruiting system or
directly to the employer.
- RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH - Use the company literature
available in the Career Resource Library and company web sites and
attend organizational information presentations.
- Make sure the outgoing message on your telephone answering
machine is appropriate for employers.
Day of Interview
- Dress and present yourself professionally.
- Arrive 5-10 minutes early for your interview to check in at the
information desk and settle in.
- Bring extra copies of your resume and unofficial transcript to
your interview.
- Ask your interviewer(s) for a business card at the end of your
interview.
After the Interview
- Write a thank you letter to the interviewer(s) within 2 days.
- Do NOT use the Beaver JobNet system as your only means of
job searching. Diversify your job search strategy to include the
use of job postings from the Web;
acquaintances who may be familiar with your career or industry of
choice; job fairs; newspaper classified advertisements; and your
own targeted letter campaigns, just to name a few strategies.
Career Services can assist you in all of these efforts.
- To help us assess the success of OSU students and the Beaver
JobNet system, please inform Career Services of ANY job offers
you receive.

Good Luck!!!
