Family and Friends
Dear Parents/Families/Friends
Welcome to Career Services at Oregon State University! We have written this letter to inform you about the variety
of services and programs available to your student to assist her/him with issues related to making choices about academic
majors, exploring careers and utilizing job search information.
Career Services provides resources to all undergraduates, graduate students and alumni to prepare them for real life
experiences. We encourage you to be an active participant in your student’s career at OSU.
Career Services offers the following resources
- Interest Inventories and Career Assessments: Students have access to
Discover, a computer-assisted career assessment, the Myers-Briggs Type
Indicator, the Strong Interest Inventory, the Career Resource Library,
and individual appointments with Career Advisors to aid their decision
making.
- National Student Exchange: Students can spend up to
a year studying at another university in the United States, Canada,
Guam, Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands while continuing to earn credit
toward their
OSU degree.
- Internship/Co-op Programs: Students are encouraged to
begin looking for internships toward the end of their first year
at OSU. Career Services
offers seminars, internship directories, one-on-one advising and
current listings
of local and nationwide opportunities at http://oregonstate.edu/career/students/internships.php.
- Career Makeover:Wardrobe Edition:
We would like to have every OSU student who earns a job interview
make a favorable first impression. Business suits today are very costly,
thus we have developed Career Makeover:Wardrobe Edition. Please consider
donating your lightly used business suit to this program. Click here for
more information.
- Interviewing Preparation: Students learn how to market
their education and skills to prospective employers.
- Learn To Write a Resume: Students learn how to market
themselves on paper and effectively communicate their transferable
skills and experiences.
- BeaverRecruiting (on-campus recruiting): Students
can explore full-time and internship/co-op opportunities through Career
Services’ web-based
system found at http://oregonstate.edu/career.
- Student Employment (on-campus/off-campus positions):
Students can access and apply for part-time, non-work study and
federal work study employment opportunities via Career Services’ Beaver
Recruiting web
site.
Career Services sponsors Career Fairs during the Fall, Winter and Spring
terms. You can find the schedule of upcoming fairs at our
Career Fair page. These follow Career
Week, which includes special events such as Dining Etiquette and employer
panels, which are open to all students. You may want to check out
additional Career Services resources and events at http://oregonstate.edu/career.
We encourage your student to participate in our services and programs, which will prepare them for the ever changing
workplace and the challenges of the new century. Please contact us at (541) 737-4085, if you have any questions or concerns.
Career Services is located in the basement of Kerr Administration Building.
