Cheryl Herring
My Role at OSU:
Coordinate Company recruitment visits, set up informational sessions/booths
My Career Path:
My Career Path has been exciting and rewarding, through working with the community, students and employers. After high school graduation l went off to college – figured out that this was not my cup of tea at the time, so went out into the vast world and started a lifetime of working. First job I landed was waitress (yep..roller skates), moved to cashier and then an exciting job came up with the Department of Motor Vehicles. So off I went to Salem, Or and worked processing traffic citations …even my own (1 only)!!!! After a few years of working there, I transferred to Oregon State University as receptionist in the Career Services Office. Here I enjoyed working with a vast many students and my co-workers were terrific as they felt like family, then another position came open in the Career Services, so I became the Student Credential File Coordinator. Was in this position for a number of years and then again…another opportunity came up. This job is now my current job ‘Employer Services Coordinator”. This will be definitely my last job as I am finding out that retirement is just around the corner.
The Rewards in Doing what I do:
It is a joy hearing from Employers as they let me know they have hired OSU students and are very pleased with them and want more. Many of the past students come back to do recruiting and will stop by and visit.
My Words of Wisdom to Students:
Experience the world, whether it is schooling, volunteering, internships or full time jobs.
